Carol Vorderman takes top bottom honours as Rear of The Year Winner
Pippa was bumped for the top bottom title by TV presenter Carol Vorderman, who attracted a ‘deluge’ of votes after appearing in a slew of snaps wearing figure hugging designer dresses.
The 50-year-old beauty was crowned top rump this year along with Strictly Come Dancing star Anton du Beke, who won the male title.''I am really surprised and flattered to get this award, particularly at this stage of my life,'' Vorderman said.
''I always suspected there were a lot of people out there who were glad to see the back of me, so this has turned out to be very funny indeed.''
Initial speculation was that the Duchess of Cambridge's sister Pippa Middleton could be a shoe-in for the award after wooing men and women worldwide with that figure-hugging white bridesmaids dress at the Royal Wedding back in April.
However, Pippa’s obscurity prior to the wedding may have hindered her chances at taking home the title, according to Tony Edwards, the award show organiser.
He says the 27-year-old was ''totally unknown'' before the royal wedding and had less than six weeks to gather votes.
''There have been quite a lot of votes for her over the period after the royal wedding, but it was less than six weeks from then to now and a lot of other stars had a lot of time to really ratchet up the votes.
''There is no doubt that Carol Vorderman has got many, many more votes.”
Male winner Anton du Beke said winning the award was an ''absolute honour''.
'Sadly, it has often been said that my rear is better than my front, so thank you very much indeed,'' he said.
The Rear of The Year awards began back in 1976 when Barbara Windsor took top bum honours, but it wasn’t until five years later that the award became an annual event.
In 1986, Rear of The Year handed out its first male award, to Michael Barrymore.
In 1991, the first Royal Rear of The Year recipient was Marian Ogilvy, the daughter of Princess Alexandra.
Sally Allen, of Wizard Jeans, official sponsors of the annual celebrity honours, said that Carol’s enviable figure is “a celebration of a woman's body at the peak of its beauty”.
''And after seeing Anton in his tight-fitting, gold-spangled trousers on Strictly, how could there ever have been another winner?''
