China tests new super-high-speed train

China launched a super-rapid test train over the weekend which is capable of travelling 500 kilometers per hour, state media said on Monday, as the country moves ahead with its railway ambitions despite serious problems on its high-speed network.
The train, made by a subsidiary of CSR Corp Ltd, China's largest train maker, is designed to resemble an ancient Chinese sword, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
It "will provide useful reference for current high-speed railway operations," it quoted train expert Shen Zhiyun as saying.
But future Chinese trains will not necessarily run at such high speeds, CSR chairman Zhao Xiaogang told the Beijing Morning News.

Ekaterina Rybolovleva Biography and Pictures Gallery 2011

Most 22-year-olds can't even imagine having a foot on the property ladder - let alone one that costs $88million.
But having a Russian billionaire father usually helps, as demonstrated by Ekaterina Rybolovleva, daughter of former fertiliser magnate Dmitry Rybolovlev.
Miss Rybolovleva is studying at an undisclosed U.S. university and will live in the apartment - which boasts ten rooms and a wraparound terrace - when she is in New York.
The sale of the apartment, which was reported yesterday by Forbe's magazine, broke records for an individual transaction in a city renowned for pricey property.

A representative for Miss Rybolovleva released a statement saying: 'A company associated with Ekaterina Rybolovleva, daughter of a well-known businessman Dmitriy Rybolovleva, has signed a contract to purchase an apartment at 15 Central Park West, New York.
'The apartment is a condominium currently owned by the Sanford Weill Family.
'Ms Rybolovleva is currently studying at a U.S. university. She plans to stay in the apartment when visiting New York.

'Ms Rybolovleva was born in Russia, is a resident of Monaco and has resided in Monaco and Switzerland for the past 15 years.'
Her father is one of the small group of Russians who became fabulously wealthy during the post-Soviet privatization of the economy and are known as oligarchs. He is the former owner of fertilizer business Uralkali.
The mining magnate is locked in a bitter divorce battle with wife Elena, to whom he has been married for 23 years. They have two daughters.

Best Music Videos of The Year 2011

While most music videos are merely slick, soulless promotional vehicles for potential hit singles, with no more substance or purpose than a Shamwow infomercial, occasionally a video comes out that transcends crass commercialism and actually stands alone as a work of visual art. Happily, quite a few such artworks hit TV screens and computer monitors for three or so minutes at a time this year, and when we added all those minutes together...well, we realized we spent much of 2011 enjoying some really awesome music videos.
So here, in ascending order of awesomeness, are our picks for the top 20 videos of the year.
20) Noel Gallagher - "AKA...What A Life"
This epic road movie stars ex-Oasis man Noel's real-life friend Russell Brand as some sort of wicked Wonderland mad hatter who lures a golden-haired lass into his dark lair and then forces her to go on a psychedelic trip. The casting is certainly ironic, considering the now-sober Mr. Perry's very well-documented past struggles with drug addiction. But certainly, this is the role Russell was born to play.

19) Stars - "We Don't Want Your Body"
This bizarre sweating-to-the-newies clip tells the musclebound love story of a male and female bodybuilder, who lip-synch to the song while pumping iron in the gym (while "Physical"-style, speedo-sheathed himbos strike poses in the background). And all along, the sexual tension, and hilarity, builds

Coca-Cola Puts Secret Formula on Display

US soft drinks company Coca-Cola is for the first time putting the secret formula for its signature beverage on 'display'. But visitors to to a new exhibit at the World of Coca-Cola museum in Atlanta, Georgia shouldn't expect to learn too much -- the museum will only be showing the metal box that houses the recipe.
The box, which until recently had not left a vault in an Atlanta bank since 1925, has been transferred to the museum in the southern US city, which is also home to the company's headquarters.
"This is a special day in Coca-Cola history, and the perfect culmination to our 125th anniversary celebrations this year," chief executive Muhtar Kent said in a statement Thursday.
Coca-Cola "has always gone to great lengths to protect it and now by safeguarding it at the World of Coca-Cola, we can share its legendary legacy with people around the world," added Phil Mooney, director of archives.
Coca-Cola was created in 1886 by Atlanta pharmacist John S. Pemberton. The formula for the drink was a closely guarded secret, only known by a few people and never written down.
But in 1919, in order to secure a bank loan, then owner of The Coca-Cola Company Ernest Woodruff provided the written formula as collateral. It was placed in a New York bank vault until the loan was paid off in 1925.

Holiday time for pregnant celebrities
A blossoming Beyonce hasn't made her due date public yet, but it can't be all that far off. At the MTV Video Music Awards back in August, the pop princess shared the fact that she and hubby Jay-Z were expecting their first future musician. Oddly, ever since then rumors have swirled that Bey's bump is fake, but we get the feeling that those reports will be squashed when a actual baby arrives next year. (12/6/2011)

Celebrity Trainer Tips

The pleasures of the holiday season are many but the pain can be equally powerful come January when we realize the damage we’ve done. This year wouldn’t it be nice to not have regrets for a change? We asked celebrity fitness and nutrition experts-- the pros who keep Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Jennifer Aniston in line--to give us their tips for getting through the holidays without those extra 10 pounds. Are you in?

HARLEY PASTERNAK, host of ABC’s “The Revolution” who has trained Lady Gaga, Megan Fox, Katy Perry and Rihanna

"When you go to a holiday party, I want you to park your car three blocks away. And walk those three blocks each direction. If you end up at a buffet, don’t make one trip and pile everything on your plate. Go up and take one thing. I always start with vegetables. Then go back for meats. Satiety lags behind ingestion so if you eat slower, you’ll feel fuller and then by the time you go back, you’ll choose less. After the meal, go on what the Italians call a passeggiata-- a walk around the neighborhood."

Focus Falls On Women in Cain Scandal

A woman who settled a sexual harassment claim against Herman Cain when he was head of the National Restaurant Association later filed a complaint in her next job about unfair treatment.
Karen Kraushaar, a former NRA spokeswoman who lodged a harassment claim against Cain in 1999, filed a complaint two or three years later when she was working as a spokesperson for the Immigration and Naturalization Service, according to the Associated Press. The claim, which did not include a specific sexual harassment complaint, argued that she should have been allowed to work at home after she suffered a serious car accident and also accused a manager of circulating a sexually charged email among staff.
Her lawyer, Joel Bennett, told the AP he wouldn't comment on the complaint because it was handled internally by the INS.
Kraushaar, who now works as a spokeswoman at the Treasury Department, is the second woman to step forward publicly to accuse Cain of sexual harassment, though she has yet to detail exactly what her claims were against the Republican presidential candidate.

Heroine & horse Tonk to appear on national TV

Heroine & horse Tonk to appear on national TV, One of the joys of frequent opera-going is the chance now and then to hear an artist take on a role for the first time and score a memorable success.
The Teatro Real of Madrid is offering that opportunity right now with its production of Richard Strauss's one-act tragedy "Elektra," starring the American soprano Christine Goerke in one of the most daunting roles ever written.
Goerke, heard at her third performance of the run on Thursday night, is simply thrilling as the vengeance-obsessed daughter of the slain Agamemnon and his murderous wife, Klytemnestra.
Her supple voice combines a warm, velvety lower and middle register with a shining top that rises easily to high C. Her sound, while not huge, has no difficulty penetrating the 110-piece orchestra — an ensemble so big the theater had to remove the first two rows of seats for this production.
Above all, Goerke brings a vocal bloom to the role that few sopranos today could match. That quality paid off especially in the gorgeous music that follows her recognition of her long-lost brother Orest, a passage she sings with melting tenderness, complete with ravishing, soft high notes.

Her acting, which seemed slightly self-conscious at first, gained strength through the nearly two-hour-long performance until she became completely absorbed in the conflicting emotions of rage, despair and, finally, frenzied jubilation that ends in her death.
